Description
This upgrade kit for the eShel spectroscope replaces the instrument’s collimator with a new doublet optimized to extend the spectral range covered, particularly in the blue part of the spectrum. See detailed article on the performance of this new instrument.
From now on, the eShel II can be used for observations from 4000A!
Replacing the collimator module is simple: simply remove 3 screws, then replace the old collimator module with the new one:
You will then need to adjust some of the data reduction parameters in the Demetra (or AudeLA) software. You’ll find all the details in this article.
This upgrade kit is only useful for eShel spectroscopes shipped before May 2018 – since that date, all new eShel spectroscopes carry the new doublet and as such have become eShel II.
